Strategy, succession planning and talent management for a global professional service firm

Background

Our client is a strategic territory (in Asia) of a global professional service firm seeking to align and refresh their strategy and implementation plan.

The scope of our work included:

  • Working with the Territory Senior Partner and Territory Leadership Team (TLT)  to align the firm’s local strategy with the global strategy
  • A second phase of work to align the TLT on succession planning and strategic talent management (as a key investment area)

Our work

Phase 1 – over a 6-9 month period this included:
  • Facilitating TLT workshops to define strategic direction and priorities and key investment areas
  • Coaching and supporting the TLT in securing strategic investment from the global firm 
  • Facilitating alignment workshops to agree deployment of investment once secured 
  • Co-facilitating technology immersion workshops for the wider leadership team to promote a growth and innovation mindset in considering strategic investment areas 
Phase 2 – over a 6 month period this included: 
  • Gathering and interpreting all talent data for senior leaders
  • Co-chairing (with Territory Senior Partner) the first Leadership Talent Council to align the Territory Leadership team around 
  • Facilitating implementation of talent practices to identify short, medium and long term successors)
  • Identifying key leadership talent in the partner population for nomination to global key talent programmes

Outcomes

  • Aligned local strategy to global strategy 
  • Secured investment funds (including for catalyst hires)
  • Created strategic alignment among TLT
  • Created a People Strategy and a new organisation design for the HC function  
  • Implemented key talent practices for succession planning and talent identification
